The Most Important South Florida Books

I have been working with South Florida books for many years and often thought of a way to evaluate which books were the most important.  Then I realized that many books have bibliographies.  I made a file combining the bibliographies of many books and arranged the books mentioned in the order of most cited.  This is the result: a list of the books most often cited in bibliographies.

The Everglades and Other Essays... The Commodore's Story Miami Millions Miami and Dade County, Florida Historical Sketches and Sidelights of Miami, Florida History of Dade County, Florida The Miracle of Miami Beach Hunting and Fishing in Florida Florida Wild Life Fontaneda's Memoir The Conquest of Florida In Lower Florida Wilds Florida Wild Flowers Boom in Paradise Florida Enchantments

This list favors books relating to history, biography, and the natural sciences. There are no novels here or cookbooks or poetry or true crime or gardening books.  The bookshelf pictured here holds fifteen books.  Douglas' Everglades would be the first book on the next shelf.
