Balmer, Edwin and Wylie, Philip. WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE. New York: A. L. Burt Company, (no date). 344 p., 20 cm. Bound in red cloth.

When Worlds Collide This copy is fine in a very good dust jacket.   The dust jacket is somewhat worn on the edges and missing small chips at the top and and bottom of the spine.   The dust jacket spine is a bit rubbed.   This copy is a reprint done by A. L. Burt "published by arrangement with F. A. Stokes Company" circa 1933.    (A7-0089).   $350.00

When Worlds Collide made its first appearance as a serial in Blue Book Magazine running in six installments from September 1932 to February 1933. Balmer was the editor of the magazine and suggested the idea to Wylie who did the writing. The book was such a success that Balmer and Wylie quickly came up with a sequel, After Worlds Collide, which tells what happened to the survivors on the new planet. The many later editions of When Worlds Collide had different bindings and more modern dust jacket art - only this A. L. Burt edition looks almost identical to the first edition.

When Worlds Collide was made into a movie in 1951 produced by George Pal for Paramount Pictures, directed by Rudolph Mate. The movie won an academy award for its special effects. In 2005 it was said to be in production again - directed by Stephen Sommers - to be released in 2008.
